Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, NYS has made changes to its annual state testing program and requirements.
NYS released some additional guidance on state testing requirements late last week. Please review the information below and let us know if you have any questions.
Preschool: Today, NYC announced that due to the recent American Relief Act, New York City plans to add up to 16,500 seats for 3-year-olds in the 2021-22 school year. Every district will have at least one pre-K program.
Gifted & Talented Programs for Pre-K and Kindergarten: As a reminder, the parent form is open until April 9, 2021. After families submit the form via MySchools or at a Family Welcome Center, educators will determine if the child is eligible to enter a randomized lottery for a gifted seat. The process will also include either teacher recommendations or interviews. Grades 3-8: - Only shorter, fully multiple choice and/or short answer state tests are required. Schools may choose to give the full test. - The tests really are just for informative purposes this year because most students will not take any exams. Only students who opted for in-person learning (~ 27% of students) will take the exams. Fully remote students will NOT take the exams. Charter schools (i.e. Success Academy) have chosen to NOT offer any exams. - English tests for grades 3-8 are scheduled for April 19-29, while the math test is slated for May 3-14. Science tests for grades 4 and 8 will take place between June 7-9. Schools can choose their own dates as long as they fall in those ranges. ** Grade 4 & 8 Science tests will not include the lab/performance sections.
- As with other years, parents can choose to opt their children out of the exams.
High School:
All Spring & Summer Regents exams EXCEPT for Algebra I, English, Living Environment, and Earth Science have been cancelled for 2021. The exams listed above have to be given because of federal requirements. Graduation requirements will be adjusted accordingly.
